What kind of computer facilities are available?

The Academy increases the availability, accessibility and use of information technology with a Technology Lab that addresses the need for an instructional environment with accessible and adaptive computers. The lab provides a wide array of state of the art software and assistive technology equipment that can be customized to meet the needs of each student.

How will I benefit from an education at the Academy?

Our students benefit in many ways. You’ll make new friends, expand networking opportunities, get involved, gain independence, and increase your educational, volunteer or employment options and your quality of life.

The Academy will help you pursue higher education, get accepted into universities, colleges, trade schools, or go on to hold jobs or volunteer positions.

With the completion of course work and passing final exams, you will become IC³® certified. Certiport’s Internet and Computing Core Certification program immediately identifies you as someone who has what it takes to succeed as a student or employee.

FOR PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
Easing the transition to independence through technology

The Academy prepares students for adult life by increasing independence, expanding life options and career choices. Backed by United Cerebral Palsy’s 60 years of leadership in the disability community, the Academy provides personalized instruction by an experienced Technology Trainer supported by a licensed Occupational Therapist. Only at the Academy can your student also receive an assessment for assistive technology and a computer for use at home. The assistive technology assessment includes evaluation for augmentative and alternative communication devices, environmental controls, seating and positioning, mobility devices, ergonomics, and computer access technology.

The Academy links its students to a global certification program that validates skills and competency in computer and internet literacy and is a resume-building credential recognized worldwide.

The Academy is the technology solution for people with disabilities because it first assesses the personal, environmental, academic and technology needs of individuals with disabilities to access his or her environment and computer; and second, it delivers personalized curriculums based on the assessments that lead to the specific, individualized goals that each student chooses to attain.
