On Thursday, June 25th, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cincinnati (UCP) and Easter Seals Work Resource Center (EWSA) held the Luau for the Levy at Foley’s Irish Pub in Reading. The luau themed night included a live band, split the pot and raffle items . The Luau raised nearly $1,000 for the Hamilton County Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Services Levy (MRDD) and brought much needed awareness to the importance and implications of the levy

We would especially like to thank Lisa Ahlersmeyer (UCP) and Debbie Smith (EWSA) for all of their hard work that went into making this event a success, John Rueve with Kona Ice for giving out free lei’s and selling snow cones throughout the night, as well as Bob Snelling who allowed us to host the event at Foley’s Irish Pub and gave a portion of the proceeds to the Levy.
The Hamilton County MRDD provides many services to children and adults with disabilities. Some of these services include therapy, a school age program, and employment and educational opportunities for adults with disabilities. The last MRDD levy was approved in November of 2004 and will expire at the end of 2009. In November, voters will have the opportunity to approve another five year levy which will continue to support MRDD services through the end of 2014. More than 70% of MRDD’s funding is currently supported by the existing levy. With this money, MRDD has been able to increase the number of people served by 44%, financially support dozens of community agencies, including UCP, as well as meet each of the 14 stipulations of the 2004 tax levy. Hang with us to find out more information about the location and time of the next Luau for the Levy!
