Life without limits for people with disabilities.

United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cincinnati

The Life Enrichment program is a full and active week-long participant-driven day program. Being community-based, many of the activities occur in the local community. We visit local attractions, seasonal events, participate in arts and cultural events and support community advocacy efforts. Our program emphasizes three themes for a full life: 1) creative arts, 2) health and wellness and 3) education and advocacy.

Creative Arts
Our mission in the arts program is to foster an environment where individuals are encouraged and supported to act, work, and think creatively, as they embark on a path to personal success and professional opportunity through artistic development. We do this through small classes, individualized attention and community art activities that reflect individuals’ interests. This includes classes in adapted photography, quilting, creative writing, ceramics, and painting for example. Because we believe in being in the community, we collaborate with a number of community programs, such as Visionaries and Voices, InkTank, Cincinnati Recreation Commission’s Art Program, ArtLinks and the Cincinnati Art Academy.

Health and Wellness
We believe that good mental, spiritual and physical health is very important. We offer small classes emphasizing active and passive movement, such as stretch, yoga, wheelchair soccer, bowling, and tai kwon do. We also address mental and spiritual health through stress and anger management classes and discussion groups. UCP offers classes that help participants understand their disability and guides them to be strong self-advocates.

Education and Advocacy
We encourage life-long learning based on our participants’ input and our classes reflect this input. For example, we offer adapted computer skills, science, everyday math, small group games, and getting to know your community. We also offer advocacy classes, which includes learning advocacy skills and taking positive action.

Life Enrichment Promotes Individual Choice
Our classes change three times a year. You choose what classes to take to meet your own goals. We offer Occupational therapy and speech therapy. You may work individually with a therapist, in a small class or in the community.

Assistive Technology may increase your level of independence. We would explore those options with you. We will help you practice and use augmentative communication and other assistive equipment so that you can use these at home and in the community.

Life Enrichment offers:
• personal attendant care and transportation if necessary.
• opportunities that encourage independence in recreational and educational activities.
• opportunities that encourage community inclusion and participation.
• an art program that allows enjoyment on many levels of participation.
